2024 Berlin Department of Public Works RESIDENTIAL SERVICES TIMELINE

The City of Berlin Department of Public Works (DPW) would like to remind residents of services provided starting in the Spring of each year.  These services are in place to help homeowners keep their properties neat, clean and free of unnecessary debris.

NOTE: BUSINESSES AND MULTI FAMILY DWELLINGS OVER 4 UNITS WILL NOT RECEIVE SPRING CLEANUP SERVICES.

  1. SPRING ONLY BRUSH PICK-UP: Weather permitting, the following is the schedule for Spring Brush Pick-Up:

Mon., May 6, 2024     south of Broadway and west of the bridge

Tues., May 7, 2024     north of Broadway and west of the bridge

Wed., May 8, 2024     north of W. Huron, east of the bridge and west of N. WI Street

Thurs., May 9, 2024    north of E. Huron and east of N. Wisconsin Street

Fri., May 10, 2024       south of E. Huron and east of the bridge

Brush should be piled parallel with the curb with cut ends to your right as you face the street.

  1. BULK ITEMS DROP OFF:

Residents will have the opportunity to dispose of bulk items by bringing them to Valley Trail Waste Management Landfill. Waste Management staff will confirm name and address before allowing residents to enter. Please bring proof of residency with you.

NEW THIS YEAR: Year-round drop off for Berlin residents at a rate of $25.00 (up to 500 lbs.) Drop items off at any time during the year for a small fee.

LIST OF UNACCEPTABLE TRASH MATERIALS: Batteries, major appliances, electronics, televisions, radios, cell phones, computers, computer accessories, waste oil, fluorescent lightbulbs, drywall, household or industrial waste, asbestos, machinery, tires, compost, auto parts, ashes or hot materials, ballasts, construction materials, or concrete.

  1. MAJOR APPLIANCE DISPOSAL: Appliances such as freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, microwaves and air conditioning units will be picked up during Spring Brush Pick-up week for a NON-REFUNDABLE $6.00 fee per appliance, which is due in advance, payable at the City Clerk’s Office.

 

  1. ELECTRONICS DISPOSAL: May 4, 2024 at the City Garage, 241 Spring St. Hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. This is the ONLY option to get rid of TV’s. Price is per pound.

 

  1. YARD WASTE & LEAF DISPOSAL: DPW collects loose leaves and grass clippings in the spring and fall of each year for residents. The 2024 Spring Leaf Pickup will begin the week of April 15.  City crews will pick-up ONE TIME THROUGH THE CITY.  Once your area has been picked-up, the DPW will not come back a second time.  Leaves should be placed loose in the terrace only.  DO NOT include sticks, twigs or branches and ABSOLUTELY NO GARBAGE, APPLIANCES, FURNITURE, TIRES, ETC.

 

  1. STORM DAMAGE PICK-UP: The Public Works Superintendent will determine if there is a need for brush pick up after a storm.

 

  1. STUMP REMOVAL: DPW has a stump removal program. If you register at City Hall by the first Friday in May, stumps in the terrace area only can be removed for $100 per stump.

 

  1. BRUSH TRUCK RENTAL: If you need alternative options to the scheduled pick-ups, the DPW also offers residents the option of renting a brush truck from the City Garage for large piles (fees do apply). You may contact City Hall at 920-361-5400 to schedule brush truck rental.

 

  1. ELDERLY/HANDICAP TUESDAY MORNING PICKUP: The Tuesday morning pickup for Elderly and physically handicapped begins May 14 through October 11. Call 920-361-5425 the Monday before to schedule a Tuesday morning pickup. The Tuesday morning pickup is limited to small amounts of yard waste (an arm full).

 

  1. CITY COMPOST SITE: CITY OF BERLIN RESIDENTS ONLY may also drop off leaves, grass, sticks, branches, garden waste and other organic compostable waste at the City of Berlin Compost Site located at White Ridge Rd. (Enter Berlin Conservation Club site and take a right at the first driveway.) NO GARBAGE, APPLIANCES, ELECTRONICS, FURNITURE OR TIRES. Violators will be fined.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL – Green Lake and Waushara County hold annual clean sweep hazardous waste collection programs.  Residents are encouraged to check their County website for how to register, what is allowed and all other important information pertaining to Hazardous Waste Materials and Disposal

Snow Removal

  • Sidewalks need to be cleared of snow and/or ice within 24 hours from the time the snow or ice ceases to accumulate on the sidewalk
  • See Code of ordinances Sec. 58-66 for more information
  • The superintendent of streets, his designees and police officers are authorized to enforce the provisions of this section

CONTRACTS WITH CITY FOR SNOW REMOVAL
(SNOW REMOVED AND DEPOSIT IN THE PUBLIC STREET)

  • Application received at City Hall (108 N Capron St) by November 15
  • An annual charge is based on the square footage of the area to be served
  • Snow removal services as outlined in Code of ordinances Sec 58-67
  • The City of Berlin is not responsible for any snow not deposited or piled in accordance with the direction of the Public Works Superintendent

Winter Parking

  • November 30 thru March 31
  • Permit approved by the Director of Public Works
  • Permit purchased at City Hall (108 N Capron Street)
  • Permit sticker is placed on the back bumper on the driver’s side of the car
  • Parking on the street will alternate even/odd to correspond with the calendar
  1. If the day is even number you will park on the side of the street that the last digit of the house is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8
  2. If the day is odd number you will park on the side of the street that the last digit of the house is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9
  • Public Works department may request that you remove your vehicle off the street if needed for snow removal
